Notes from my studio.
I have begun keeping notes as I work in my studio.
It’s a page open on my computer and as I paint/ work/ potter around, I make quick notes about my process.
It’s similar to journaling my process as I go and there’s definitely something interesting about it.
These are some ones from today…
I have secretly been wanting to spend more time making collage for ages.
For some reason I put it off because I don’t have time to play. What??
PLAY is the very heart of studio work. Without play, we are going to be stuck in a rut.
So I have I have been gathering old papers and using up old painting studies for making collages.
Cut.
Paste.
Paint.
I’m enjoying painting the background last and leaving the dark negative spaces around the subject.
The desire for me, is to get loser and loser with my work. I want to let go. I don’t want it to be tight. Can I impart the joy of it with the simplest of lines?
This whole exercise is like a breath out.
If there is one aim, it is to accept my work the way it is. The way it wants to come out. Not better. Not more technical.
I have a feeling that this process is a window into my practice. I will be able to sense patterns, paths and recipes that I had not considered before.
We shall see!
